Eduardo Chillida centenary

On 10 January 2024 it will be 100 years since the birth of the San Sebastian sculptor Eduardo Chillida (1924-2002), one of the most universal and influential Basque-Spanish artists of the 20th century. The centenary of the sculptor Chillida will begin this summer and will celebrate the artist's artistic legacy with different events and activities, an opportunity to disseminate not only his work, but also his values, sensitivity and contributions to the history of contemporary art. In order to admire Eduardo Chillida's sculptures, just a stone's throw from Villa Magalean, enjoy a private visit to the Chillida Leku museum in Hernani and stroll around San Sebastian's Concha Bay where you may admire his most emblematic sculptures.https://www.eduardochillida.com/es/eduardo-chillida-100-anos

Picasso Celebration 1973-2023

2023 also marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Pablo Picasso, one of the most important Spanish and universal artists of all time. In order to commemorate his life and work, an extensive programme of exhibitions, acts and events will take place in Spain, from Malaga, where he was born (in the Picasso Museum and in his home), through Madrid (exhibition "Picasso - El Greco" in the Prado Museum) and Barcelona (exhibition "Miro - Picasso" in the Miro Foundation). In the Basque Country, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao will host the exhibition "Picasso sculptor. Matter and Body" at the end of September. Another way to commemorate Picasso is to visit Guernica, the Biscayan town bombed during World War II that inspired Pablo Picasso's internationally famous painting "Guernica". A full-scale mosaic reproduction is on display in the centre of the town of Guernica.https://celebracionpicasso.es/evento/picasso-materia-y-cuerpo-0

Cristina Iglesias: 'Hondalea'

In her search for poetic and symbolic engagement between works and space, the Donostia-San Sebastian-born artist Cristina Iglesias has created in the Casa del Faro on Santa Clara Island in Donostia-San Sebastian, a work that incorporates the peculiar geology and ecology of the Basque coast and the fierceness of the ocean waters that surround the island. In summer, you can enjoy a guided tour of the work and its surroundings, which includes a boat trip across La Concha bay towards the island.Visita - Hondalea - Ataria (donostia.eus)
